Plum pen device IQOS in Nouméa: the budget shortlist
Plum in Nouméa: 6 units tested over 5 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for New Caledonia.
Coil life, liquid cost and the plum habit
We run plum the same way in Nouméa: same pen device, same 5 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
Plum in Nouméa reaches the shelf in pen device formats, and the budget ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
If you only read one line: the pen device you buy decides how long plum tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a plum pen device really costs in Nouméa
Plum in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In Nouméa the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
How we tested plum in a pen device
- Choose strength against the ceiling in New Caledonia, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Stock depth: 6 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Batch code and production date, so a plum bottle turned in 5 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every plum bottle shipped into New Caledonia.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where plum goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest pen device available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Treating the advertised XPF55 entry kit as the real cost when refills run XPF3.21 per 10 ml.

Frequently asked questions
How long does plum in a pen device last?
In Nouméa we measured 5 to 6 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
Why does plum taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the plum blend itself harsh.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On plum the budget price and the premium price can sit within XPF3.21 per 10 ml once 6–12 business days is counted.
